Divine Protection 2 – Resting On His Promises

Divine Protection 2
Resting On His Promises

I remember a true story of a little girl who was being ill treated by her guardians. She prayed to the Lord to turn her into a bird so she could fly away to safety. Perhaps she had read Psalms 124.

Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
Psalms 124:7 NKJV

We don’t really know her motivation, but that was her prayer. The next day, the local police station somehow came to know of the girl’s situation and came to her rescue. Was the police intervention as a result of God hearing her prayers or was it just mere coincidence?
You be the judge.

This story is interesting to me because it tells us how much everyone counts before our God. Whether old or young, rich or poor. He hears us. Your requests and petitions are not far from Him. This little girl banked on the promises of God to deliver any soul under oppression and she was not disappointed.
This series is being written to encourage you to know that those same privileges are available to you.

Do we know what God has promised? I hope we do. If we don’t, I have a few list of promises we can bank on.

In a pandemic He has promised;
No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
Psalms 91:10 NKJV

And if you are moved, He has promised a fail-safe;
¹¹For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.
¹² In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Psalms 91:11?-?12 NKJV

In a war He has promised;
No weapon formed against you shall prosper…
Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

In a litigation He has promised;
…and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

Even when we are guilty, He has promised;
²⁴Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, Or the captives of the righteous be delivered?
²⁵But thus says the Lord: “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, And the prey of the terrible be delivered; For I will contend with him who contends with you, And I will save your children.

Isaiah 49:24‭-‬25 NKJV

In an occultic attack He has promised;
“For there is no sorcery against Jacob, Nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob And of Israel, ‘Oh, what God has done!’
Numbers 23:23 NKJV

In an economic crisis He has promised;
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, “there is lifting up;” and He shall save the humble person.
Job 22:29 KJV

Hallelujah!

Stocks may fall, and companies downsize, but we believe there shall be a lifting up and so shall it be.

In a family crisis He has promised;
God sets the solitary in families;…
Psalms 68:6 NKJV

No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.
Exodus 23:26 NKJV

In a health crises He has promised;
…by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 NKJV (1 Peter 2:24-25)

In a social crisis He has promised;
When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Proverbs 16:7 NKJV

In a malicious attack He has promised;
…if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them;…”
Mark 16:18 NKJV

The Question is, whose report will you believe?

There is a strong distinction between Resting On God’s Promises and Testing them. Let me illustrate.

In the second temptation of Jesus Christ, the devil quotes one of the promises of God’s protection for Jesus,
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’ ”

Matthew 4:5-7

The scripture is true, but the conditions in which the devil quotes it is perverted

The promises of God are like an insurance policy.

“If you have a fire incidence or a thief steals your car, we do so and so for you”
That is how insurance works…
But if you now go and steal your car by handing it or selling it or you burn your house and then go claim insurance money, that’s fraud and God does not take fraud lightly. You cannot go a buy Sniper, put in your food and claim, “We shall eat of deadly things and nothing shall harm us”. No! You cannot jump off a bridge and quote, “He will give His angels charge over us…” No!

That is insurance fraud in God’s kingdom.
You are, in effect, testing the promises of God and God cannot be subject to the scrutiny of man nor the judgement of man. He is not on trial.
If anything, we are.
His Promises are to be rested on. That means you can bank on it.

What the devil did in that temptation was to push Jesus to test God. You only test what you doubt.

You carry on the assignments and life He has entrusted you with knowing that come what may, His Promises will answer for you.

It’s like a man who buys a car and insures it against accidents and then parks the car for fear of incurring damages that he cannot afford to pay for. If you trust the insurance, you will use the car. If you don’t trust it, you will keep the car. Many people do not act in faith, they don’t go where God sends them or embark on missions or projects God orders for because they don’t trust Him enough to come through for them…
We rest in the promises of God when we demand them in times when they are due to us.
You don’t beg and insurance company to pay up. You demand them to honour their contract.

Demand His Promises In your life.

Look at this scripture and be blessed.
Thus says the Lord, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.
Isaiah 45:11 NKJV

Just in case you are afraid to demand His Promises. Look at what God says, its even bolder – He says command!
Not just demand, buy command!
As this week unfolds, may the Promises of God pursue you and overtake you.
God bless you all for tuning in.

I hope this blesses you and sets you on a path of victory henceforth.
